Thomas Logging and Forestry Inc. hosts UMaine Forest Operations Winter Camp
On Monday, PLC Member and Master Logger Thomas Logging & Forestry INC. of Guilford hosted a visit by University of Maine School of Forest Resources students who are participating in the university’s annual weeklong Forest Operations Winter Camp. Company owner Thomas Douglass, PLC Executive Director Dana Doran, and Northeast Master Logger Certification Program® Executive Director Ted Wright spent a full day with these future foresters sharing the challenges loggers face and the expertise they bring to proper forest management as well as the value of Master Logger Certification. Many thanks to the Craft Cafe in Guilford for hosting the group for presentations in the morning. Students then visited two active logging jobs in Blanchard and Sebec. It was a great day and an important opportunity to provide the loggers perspective to the students. Special thanks to Thomas Douglass for sharing his expertise and leading the tours! More photos of the day are available HERE.

In September NEC received the welcome news that the Center’s funding from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) would be continued for another five years.
